U.S. Navy Memorial

Dedicated in 1987, the Navy Memorial honors those who have served in the U.S. Navy. The memorial features a "Granite Sea" that is meant to act as a reminder of the expansive size of the earth's oceans. According to the website, the scale of the map is comparable to the view from a space ship 800 miles above the earth.  The bronze sculpture of the Lone Sailor is perhaps the most famous feature of the memorial.  After walking around the ampitheatre, head over to the Naval Heritage Center to find out more about the Navy and check out their latest exhibits.
