Cosmo Couture 2011 at Artisphere
The 2011 IIDA MAC Designer Charity Event, Cosmo Couture, was held at the Artisphere in Rosslyn last night and what a spectacle it was! This fall’s event was a juried competition and charity benefit in which local design firms partnered with industry manufacturers to create high fashion pieces. Each firm toured D.C. and snapped a photograph of something D.C. related and used that image to inspire the design of their garment. Some of the inspiration included D.C.'s cupcake craze, the Metro, monuments, and national parks. The work of the participating firms was showcased during this full runway show and was presented in front of a sold out audience of over 700 attendees.
This year's beneficiary was My Sister’s Place, Inc., the largest and oldest non-profit agency exclusively serving battered women and their children in the District of Columbia. Last year the event donated $10,000 to My Sister’s Place, Inc. and this year's event has already risen over $30,000.
