Taking the place of Avenue nightclub in the revitalized East End neighborhood, LUX Lounge recently celebrated its grand opening, and it was greeted with a very warm welcome. Sure, the weather outside was dipping into the 20s, but inside the atmosphere was downright hot thanks to a packed dance floor and an awesome playlist of hip-hop, dance, house and Top 40 music.

With four levels of dance and lounge space, the atmosphere at LUX is undoubtedly sexy. Plasma-screen TVs line the wood-paneled, 18-foot walls; marble bars are located in multiple locations on each level of the club, and plenty of plush seating areas, complete with warm lighting, help balance out the energy of the dance floor. With a different style DJ on every level, there’s something for every taste, whether you’re looking for a swanky spot to sit all night or to be right in the midst of the crowd on the main level.

If you reserve a private table, service will include bottles, complimentary juices and sodas, and no cover charge for you and your guests. A cocktail waitress will also be assigned to your table all night. If you opt to stick with the general public, drinks at the bar include beers, mixed drinks and shots (the usual).

Attire is fashionable and somewhat dressy; no athletic wear or baseball hats are permitted. Be prepared to be frisked by the bouncers before you go in and, ladies, your purses will be checked. With that said, the security is lighting fast, so you shouldn’t have to wait long.

With all the lounges in D.C., it's hard to create one that really stands out from the crowd. While LUX seems to be off to a good start, only time will tell what its fate will be in the nation's capital. If you're in the neighborhood and looking for something new, check it out.
