At first glance, there is little that separates Bar Pilar from the scores of other bistro-cafes in the 14th Street and U Street Corridors. With an eclectic mix of art deco décor and a young, hip clientele, this is a place to stop in for a drink or a casual bite. The bistro-style features unique American-contemporary dishes with evident international influences, including a mussel chowder that is out of this world. The restaurant transforms into a vibrant lounge for 20-somethings on weekend nights, but the narrow bar starts to feel a bit claustrophobic as the place fills up.
