It’s hard not to view the journalism world through the bleary eyes of a grizzled reporter facing deadlines (or a demanding editor or an uncooperative source) who retreats to a dimly lit and well-stocked bar to belt down a few after a story is filed. If you are such a journalist, or like to live the illusion for a while, head to the Post Pub. Celebrities—particularly those of the news variety—sometimes frequent this bar. The pub’s friendly staff tells that the original Post Pub opened in the 1860s, and has been in its current incarnation for more than 50 years.
The bar area has table seating and in the next room is the sit-down dining area. Both are lined with historic photos and memorabilia. A jukebox belts out a well-rounded selection of songs. Prices on average range between $5 and $6.
As far as drink specials go? “It’s whatever Kathy makes up.”
