A bar can be many things. But can it be a high-end spot with a sports-minded theme and a laid back appeal in posh new digs? Welcome to Public Bar, you’re answer to everything above as a place that appeals to those looking for something nice and neat, and not just your bourbon. Much nicer than a tavern and a big step above your local pub, Public Bar is for those ready to graduate from those memorable beer-soaked nights spent in a watering hole and into something a tad more refined.
Architects and design group Grupo7 gave the former home to Five a major facelift. Recycled wood on the ceilings and walls, exposed red brick and black iron give a rustic feel while warm leather banquettes, unique light fixtures and marble-topped bars updated the open space with a modern appeal. A sportsticker streams above a bar between the piece de resistance, two soaring walls plastered with several plasma screens hung like art, so that any sporting event at any angle is available and viewable. For a more private viewing, oversized booths come with their own individual mini-flat screens and you’ll never miss a game highlight with embedded plasma screens inside the mirrors of both the men and women’s restrooms. And make sure to duck into the nooks and crannies to uncover a video game of Pac Man or an interactive round of boxing.
The second floor boasts a more lounge-like atmosphere with a den of leather couches and cocktail service that proves to be enticing without the intimidation of mandatory bottle service. Although bottle service is available anyone can enjoy the plush seating and tables without a reservation. A DJ spins on Friday and Saturday nights and the space is also perfect for private parties and events where your own music and TV’s can be programmed to your specifications without the din of the bar crowd below.
Some things to look foward to are the stunner rooftop lounge that comes complete with two bars, a DJ booth, plenty of plush seating and oversized ottoman-style canopy beds for lounging; a kitchen, which is currently being built will be finished by the end of the summer. Expect a menu of comfortable American fare and eventually expanded hours to include a menu for lunch and brunch. For updates and notices about special events, promotions and parties you can also join the Public Bar Facebook page.
