6th Annual J. Dilla Tribute and Fundraiser at 9:30 Club
J. Dilla was a Grammy Award winning producer from Detroit who obtained and maintained a level of respect and genuine level of greatness that has only been achieved by a few hip-hop legends and trackmasters. Jay Dee’s brand of soulful swing was unique and uncompromising. His discography credits include tracks for heavyweights Common, A Tribe Called Quest, Busta Rhymes, De La Soul, Erykah Badu, Janet Jackson, Notorious B.I.G., The Pharcyde, Brand New Heavies and others. J Dilla suffered for over three years with an incurable blood disease, and was also diagnosed with lupus, before passing in 2006. His legend lives on and amazingly still grows through posthumous works with Mos Def, Talib Kweli and more.
Fellow artists and fans turned up to the 9:30 Club on Tuesday July 12th for the 6th Annual DC Loves Dilla tribute show, which raises much needed funds for the J Dilla and Lupus Foundations. Acts included Gods'Illa, Wes Felton, Maimouna Youssef, Kaimbr and Flex Matthews.
