Fighting for the children
When a cause supports our nation’s children, and our future, how could some of D.C.’s most powerful (and most beautiful) not turn out to show support? They did just that on November 5. Fight Night, after 20 years, is still bringing in celebrities from sports, music, business, and politics for its annual event. Tickets were well worth the $1000/person price tag as guests got to mingle with the likes of boxing legends Sugar Ray Leonard and Joe Frazier, music industry heavyweights Jermaine Dupri, Patti Austin, and Babyface, and politicos like DC Mayor Fenty.
Proceeds from the event went to a variety of organizations sponsored by Fight Night. Some are non-profits devoted to helping the children of military families, others to preserving children’s health and wellness. Among the auctioned items that went to Fight Night’s causes was an American flag that recently flew over a U.S. Army Base in Afghanistan (the flag went for over $60,000). At Fight Night, the fight isn’t just about the boxing ring, but about making sure our children are protected and given every opportunity to succeed.
