LeftBank fundraiser fashion show features local designer
April 26, 2009
With its glowing spherical lights and soft pulsing soundtrack, LeftBank on 18th St. always looks like it’s a fashion show waiting to happen. And on Sunday, it did - for a good cause. The bar hosted a charity showcase of the clothing, jewelry and artwork of local designer Dana Ayanna Greaves, aka Artistic AYA. Volunteer models strutted around a makeshift catwalk in Greaves’ funky, one-of-a-kind designs while attendees sipped mimosas and mingled. While AYA's urban-inspired frocks and paper jewelry aren't sold in many stores yet, you can find her wares online at her ETSY shop or at Lettie Gooch on U St. Proceeds from the ticket sales went to Pediatric HIV/AIDS Care, Inc., which provides programming to children living with HIV/AIDS. The show was sponsored by The Dunes, a company that promotes up-and-coming D.C. artists through fundraisers and charity events.
