46 Mommas: Shave for the Brave 2011
Every day, on average, 46 families receive the news that their child has cancer. Hoping to eradicate this statistic, St. Baldrick’s Foundation held a huge fundraiser at Union Station in an effort to raise $1 million for children’s cancer research. The mothers of 46 different children who had or have cancer had their heads shaven as well as a select few volunteers willing to lose their locks for a great cause.
Local celebrities including Mary Amons of Real Housewives of D.C., John Kelly of The Washington Post, Arch Campbell, Alison Starling and Natasha Barrett of ABC7 WJLA, Will Thomas of FOX5 WTTG and Andrea Roane of WUSA9 and emcee Angie Goff of NBC helped shave heads while radio personalities Mike O’Meara, formerly of 105.9 FM WVRX and Bob Madigan of 103.5 FM WTOP actually shaved their heads to benefit this wonderful foundation.
