Flavor Tripping Party
A quick glance around the buffet at EFN Lounge reveals nothing out of the ordinary: Buckets and bowls brim with the promise of tasty finger food, and the heaping arrangements of colorful candy would make Willy Wonka beam. But a table of tiny cups betrays a sour secret -- mustard, vinegar and Tobasco abound, but there’s nary a hot dog in sight. What’s the deal?
Flavor tripping, of course. Eating just one tiny “trippy fruit” (known to scientists as synsepalum dulcificum) will perform taste-bud alchemy on your tongue, turning the tangy to sweet and the tart to tolerable. The $12 price of admission will grant you access to all the soy sauce and Sour Patch Kids you can get your hands on, plus one trippy fruit berry. (For extra punch, get your fruit in tablet form for $3.)
