Metropolitan Cooking and Entertaining Show 2011
Thousands turned out for the 2011 Metropolitan Cooking and Entertaining Show at the Washington Convention Center this weekend. Countless exhibitors from across the country showed off their products with yummy free samples, from olive oils and dips to chocolate, candy and more. A host of local culinary stars, including Michel Richard, B. Smith and "Next Food Network Star" finalist Mary Beth Albright, were also on hand to give talks and cooking demos, but the main attraction were live presentations from Food Network stars like Paula Deen, Guy Fieri and Giada de Laurentiis.
Clearly the crowd favorite, Paula Deen showed audiences how to make her famous apple-stuffed pork loin, while regaling everyone's taste buds with Thanksgiving suggestions including depp fried turkey and "Ooey Gooey Butter Cake." The southern queen also gave a plug for her favorite D.C. restaurant, Art Smith's Art and Soul. "Diners, Drive Ins and Dives" host Guy Fieri also wowed the crowd, including a special performance for 2,500 military wives. The star brought along his son Hunter to help him cook up favorites like "Mac Daddy Mac n Cheese."
