Princess Caroline of Monaco announced today that her non-royal son, Andrea Casiraghi, is engaged to marry his South American heiress girlfriend Tatiana Santo Domingo, 28.

In keeping with Caroline's longstanding wariness around the press, her announcement gave no details on when or where the wedding will take place, or much about the bride, according to the Associated Press.

The two have been a couple for about eight years. She was born in the U.S. but her late grandfather and late father were Colombian billionaires, among the richest men in the world. Her mother and grandmother are Brazilian aristocrats. Tatiana and Lauren Santo Domingo, a Vogue contributing editor married to Tatiana's half-uncle, are prominent socialites in New York, seen often out and about.

Tatiana was identified as Brazilian when she accompanied Andrea to the wedding of his uncle, Prince Albert of Monaco, to South African Olympic swimming champion Charlene Wittstock in Monaco last year.

Casiraghi, 28, is the oldest of Caroline's four children and so the oldest grandchild of the late Princess Grace of Monaco, the American movie star Grace Kelly who married reigning Prince Rainier in 1956 in the first celebrity royal wedding of the modern era. She died in a car accident in 1982; Rainier died in 2005. Albert succeeded him, then ended decades of bachelorhood only last year.

Andrea is Caroline's son from her second marriage, to Stefano Casiraghi, an Italian industrial heir killed in a speed-boat racing accident in 1990 when he was 30. Although not a royal highness (it passes through the male line), Andrea could be in line to reign after his mother should Uncle Albert and his bride not produce heirs themselves.

Caroline is married to her third husband, the German Prince Ernst of Hanover, making her Princess of Hanover, too, and she lives mostly in Germany. Her fourth child is Princess Alexandra of Hanover who is almost 13.
