The New Cars

Original frontman: Ric Ocasek
Reunion frontman: Todd Rundgren
In the Cars’ late-‘70s/early-‘80s heyday, frontman and main songwriter Ric Ocasek let the good times roll, merging ‘70s rock with the burgeoning New Wave sound, until the party was over by the beginning of 1988. Then ‘70s radio staple Todd Rundgren (above, fourth from left) pulled together a “supergroup” in 2005 featuring himself and some non-Ocasek members of the Cars, started playing old Cars songs and some new material live, and called it the New Cars. Mercifully, they’ve been on hiatus since 2007.
