Boy George

“I’m not gay,” proclaimed the famously flamboyant Culture Club singer in 1984—and at the time, most of us were willing to shrug and figure that he just had a thing for heavy mascara and androgynous outerwear. Later, we all found out that the person who really wanted to hurt him (and make him cry) was Culture Club drummer Jon Moss.
(For the record, Boy George continues to insist that he’s more bisexual than gay, telling Rolling Stone in a 2000 interview, “There really isn't a gay and straight—it's all a bit of an optical illusion. I think we're all kind of made up of equal parts Rambo and Lucille Ball.”)
