Fans waitied until after midnight for the band to take the stage
March 13, 2009
It's been almost two years since the release of their last album, but Isaac Brock and Modest Mouse certainly know how to stay in the news. After announcing this spring's short US tour, the band said ex-Smiths guitarist, Johnny Marr would not be touring with them seeing as he was working on an album with another band (England's “The Cribs”). Then last week the band announced that they will soon be releasing their new animated video for their song "King Rat," which was a bonus track off their 2007 album, "We Were Dead Before the Ship Even Sank." Why is this big news? It was directed by Heath Ledger.
Friday's very sold out show at the 9:30 Club showcased the band's punchy folk/funk hybrid to a rapturous, frenzied crowd. Touring guitarist Jim Fairchild filled in admirably for the missing Marr as the band played songs from throughout their 13+ year career. But they didn't play their big hit "Float On!"
