Original soundtrack, 'Glee: The Christmas Album, Volume 2'
Last year's "Glee" Christmas album was a mixed bag; there were some good renditions of Christmas staples (Mame's "We Need a Little Christmas," a Gospel turn on "Angels We Have Heard on High," anything that Amber Riley sang, really) but they were tempered by some real clunkers (who wants to hear Matthew Morrison narrate "Mr. Grinch"?). In the same mold, this year's offering has some promising songs sprinkled throughout—Naya Rivera won't be able to do anything but kill it with "Santa Baby," surely—and some that are more worrying. Will Lea Michele be able to Joni-wail non-annoyingly on "River"? Single "Do They Know It's Christmas" is a good omen for the rest of the album, as a pretty stirring rendition of the 1984 Band Aid song, featuring the whole cast and winners of Oxygen's "Glee Project." –LM
