Latest release: “333EP-1” (Parallel Thought LTD)
Who: An anonymous collective of producers associated with the acclaimed hip-hop crew Parallel Thought and rappers Del the Funky Homosapien and Tame One—both of whom dropped a few verses for a 3:33 track (not included on this debut EP) called “Cheap Thrills.” And really, that’s about all we know. Whoever these guys are, they prefer to let the music speak for itself.

What we’re saying: Instrumental hip-hop for the apocalypse. Over heavy, muffled beats that sound like they were made in an old bomb shelter, strings weep, spectral piano keys rattle, synths ominously drone, and distant voices whisper and wail. Like DJ Shadow at his most trunk-rattling or Amon Tobin at his bleakest, 3:33 can be downright scary—but they also bring enough boom-bap to keep heads nodding. – Andy Hermann
