Bomba Estereo at the Black Cat
What better way to spend Cinco de Mayo than with one of Latin alternative music’s fastest-rising stars, Bomba Estereo. And just like their name implies, their music indeed is explosive. Leading the charge is fierce MC / singer Liliana Saumet. Her spit-fire rhymes blend in perfectly with the electro-grooving and indigenous beats from the band’s native Colombia generated by Bomba founder Simon Mejia. The crowd at the Black Cat lit up and started jumping uncontrollably during when Bomba performed their hits “Fuego” and “Ponte Bomb.” Saumet, whose petite frame belies her booming raspy and soulful voice, was electric, dancing as if in a trance, and engaging with the fans at every opportunity—rapping on one mic, while sticking out a secondary mic so the crowd can sing along.
