NSO @ Wolf Trap
All generations filled the Wolf Trap's Filene Center on Saturday evening to enjoy "Casablanca" the way movies were meant to be seen (and heard): On the big screen with the full score played live by the National Symphony Orchestra. An Oscar-winning classic, Humphrey Bogart and Ingrid Bergman's first appearances on the large screens were welcomed with audience applause, while cheers followed all of Humphrey Bogart's famous lines, including "Here's looking at you, kid" and "Louis, I think this is the beginning of a beautiful friendship." A part of the NSO @ Wolf Trap series, Turner Classic Movies hosted the screening of the World War II love story, sharing behind-the-scenes tidbits before the movie and during intermission.
With the music from Casablanca as iconic as its characters and dialogue, the NSO turned the average outdoor moving screening into both a screen on the green and a concert on the green, and the Oscar-winning masterpiece could not be enjoyed for the second, third, fourth, fifth (or greater) time in a better way.
