There are dive-like qualities to Polly’s; it’s a dark, basement bar, visited almost exclusively by people who live in the neighborhood. Beers are available for two dollars every weekday from 4 to 7 p.m. However, Polly’s food is not your average dive bar cuisine: avocado eggs benedict and grilled portabello burgers. There’s not a freezer or microwave in this community hangout, and it’s one of the first businesses of the U Street renaissance, opening in 1992.
