Rita’s Italian ice is dense with flavor and as soft as ice cream. The consistency may be due to its freshness, it’s made fresh daily, and the ingredients: real chunks of fruit. At the Columbia Heights location, flavors change daily, but mango is always available. Custard and shakes can be enjoyed as can a layered mix of custard and Italian ice called Gelati. The storefront is tiny and patrons must eat their treats on the outside seating or at home.
