Halalco

Let's face it, Halalco does not have much competition. Most of the other shops that sell halal products are, well, shops. Halalco is a bona-fide "store." It has a full line of groceries including fresh vegetables and fruits and a variety of meats. The chicken, in particular, is excellent. It is raised and slaughtered on a halal farm and the quality of the meat is vastly superior to the hormone-stuffed selection you will get at Safeway or Giant. This is one of the reasons no Muslims and nbon Indo-Paks are starting to visit this store with more and more frequency. The store also has a vast book slection (entirely of Islamic subject matter) but to their credit they sell books from just about every school of thought in Islam from Sufish to Wahhabism. They also have a limited supply of mens and women's clothes and hom decorations. The only items that seem to be priced rather high are those that are imported. Water from Malaysia, for example, is more expensive than Poland Springs. Other specialty import items such as black seed oil, soaps and (some) dates are a bit pricey too. That being said, what do you expect? Where else are you going to be able to buy olive oil from Lebanon, dates from Palestine and soap from Jordan. In summation, Halalco is an excellent place to shop; whether you are looking for spices from "back home" or you are just looking for an exotic shopping experience. The staff is busy but helpful and the customer service here is on par with any supermarket.
