Alero U is the U-Street sibling to identical Mexican restaurants in Dupont Circle and Cleveland Park. Though it occasionally has the look and feel of a generic chain, Alero is definitely your best shot at authentic Mexican cuisine on U street. The trendy and artistically-decorated interior sets a great mood for a casual date or laid-back rendezvous with friends. If the weather permits, consider taking advantage of the spacious street-level patio, which is ideal for people-watching while you sip down a margarita mixed with pretty much any type of tequila you can imagine.
