Winner: Washington Post 2010 Best Sports Bar competition

This rating system must have a major processing error. The Penn Quarter Sports Tavern is a five-star sports bar. The Washington Post survey voted it Best Sports Bar in 2009 and Best Bar in 2010!!! Come and check it out.
It's my favorite sports bar anywhere, not just in DC! How come? Best atmosphere I can find, especially at game times. Big wide screens with totally unobstructed views, Friendly customers and staff. Good prices on great food and drinks. Great space, upstairs, downstairs and - spring through fall - also on the patio and sidewalk.

Most Underrated Sports Bar in DC
By andin, August 3, 2010

I love this place. It's intimate, it's in a perfect location, and yet it's not overwhelmed (though it is pretty busy) with tourists and swarms of screaming fans. The people are great, the menu is much more than what you would expect from a sports bar, the prices are fair, they serve Miller Lite (among other beers), and there are enough TVs to give everyone what they want. Really love this place.

Great Little Place

Just found this little gem down on 7th and penn NW on my way to a caps game. Tired of "Chinatown" madness before and after every trip to the verizon. Found a seat at the bar no problem (it was a tuesday afterall) had the best burger ive ever tasted and a pitcher of beer for twenty bucks or so. Watched some highlights on one of many 50" tv's (there's more tvs than tables) while offering playoff opinions of my defensively challenged team to the rabid hockey who was my bartender. unfortunately he was a redwings fan. if i could sum up this bar in one word: genuine. You don't have to be trendy when you're the real deal. I only wonder if i can add on a bar stool to my season. tickets

Penn Quarter Sports Tavern - a modern Cheers
By ElizabethB, October 18, 2009

Overall rating:

Huge screens everywhere, multiple games, no obstructed views. Two cozy floors, big enough for a crowd but small enough to make for a super-friendly atmosphere. Outdoor patio (with gas heaters) and 3 new outside screens! Sidewalk cafe in warm weather. Good food, good prices, good location - 3 blocks from the Verizon Center, across the street from the National Archives metro stop.

PQST is The Best Place on Earth
By gt0374, September 14, 2009

Overall rating:

The Penn Quarter Sports Tavern (PQST) is the best place in the Washington DC Area for sports fan and anybody else just looking for a good time. This place has awesome food and drinks, a great atmosphere, and the staff really know how to take care of their customers. I created a Seattle Seahawks Fan Group which I was looking to find a home for. One fine Sunday I happened upon the PQST and was unexpectedly greeted by Matt who told me that he would love to make PQST home for the Seahawks fans. He told me that he would reserve tables and TVs for us and fly our team flags. He has faithfully held up to this agreement and I have to say, I can't think of a better place with a better staff to watch sports. This place is amazing with regards to catering to groups, and they are consistently getting better and better.

Good Ole Sports Bar

A much needed sports bar in the Penn Quarter neighborhood. Great new LED TV's to watch from the inside and outside for your viewing pleasure. PQST attracts a diverse crowd with friendly staff so it makes for a fun experience while watching a game or just hanging out with your friends.

Food there is affordable and good. They've got awesome signature potato chips and homemade fried mac & cheese with a respectable beer selection at reasonable prices. I am a big fan of the Leinenkugel Classic Amber on draft!!!

Parking is not that bad as it gets later in the day, just make sure to pay the meters until 9:30pm.

Overall, a great place to hang out with friends and have a cold one.

Amazing Loacl Sports Bar

Blown away by what this local bar has to offer. Food and Drinks are great and worth the reasonable price. The staff is friendly and accommodating, except you have to seat your self, tables are first come first serve. A little difficult when they are very busy. I have watched sporting events and attended numerous happy hours here and had a blast

Where To Be On Game Day!
By JLowell, September 8, 2009

Wow! I attended my Alumni Chapter Game Watch last Saturday for the first time and I was blown away! There were multiple flat screens showing our game and the atmosphere was electric. Not only was the food great(try the Mac & Cheese Balls!) but even with a huge crowd I had my food in minutes! I just moved here from Dallas, where I attended my Alumni Game Watches and it was nothing like this! From my exit across the street at the Metro I saw my College Flag hanging outside as well as a few others, what a way to greet a newbie to the City! Not only were my fellow Alums treated great (Decorations, Great Service, Friendly) we yelled our fight song everytime we scored!!! I will be going back to Penn Quarter Sports Tavern for every game!

Not even worth one star

4:20 Sat down
4:25 Ordered drinks
4:35 Ordered food
4:45 Got our pitcher of beer
5:20 Got one order of wings & we ordered another pitcher of beer
5:30 Got the other order of wings & the two sandwiches. By the way, the man who brought our food also washed the dishes and took out the trash!
5:37 "Loaded" baked potatoes arrived not loaded
5:45 Got forks, our potatoes were cold
5:51 Went to talk to the manager, said he would be right out- wasn’t
6:00 Went to talk to the manager again We explained our food was cold & took over an hour to get it he asked "well did you eat it" He said that that was just how it is here
6:15 As we sat finishing our beer our waitress lit up her black and mild and began to talk trash about us to another table. (The table to our left sent back their cold food and left). Thank God we were able to turn away a potential five tables while we sat there. Trust me we saved you guys from overpriced, gross food brought to you by slow, dirty service!
