For a different spin on South American cuisine, try Sombrero. Opened in 2007, the small, bright orange café offers Peruvian and "Salvatex" (Salvadoran meets Tex-Mex) cuisine. Start with one of the fresh soups, or Cocktail De Camarones. Then move on to house specialities like the smoked pork ribs the rotisserie chicken -- served either quarter, half or whole ($4.95, $7.95 and $14.95 respectively). Regulars also love the grande pollo saltado (sauteed chicken with fresh greens, red peppers, french fries and served with Salvatex rice and beans). Inside, the dominant decorating scheme is orange as well, which is nicely off-set by white tablecloths, elegant lighting and bold artwork. The sombreros and serapes on the wall don't hurt either. If you can, snag a table by the window so you can watch the food traffic on Crystal City's restaurant row.
