They say imitation is the sincerest form of flattery, and in Matchbox's case, it's also the surest way to success. The restaurant, which opened its doors in January, bears a remarkable resemblance to the original Matchbox in Chinatown and that's a good thing. From the modern-yet-warm decor to their beloved mini burgers and wood-fired pizzas, Matchbox's Barracks Row location has retained all the best parts of its predecessor while adding some new items, too.
Expect a wait nearly anytime you go as they don't take reservations (except for large groups on weeknights), but it's easy to pass the time at the bar with one of their house-infused liquors, a cold ale on tap or a nice glass of wine. Once you're seated, chef Johnny Mac has created something for everyone: pizzas, salads, sandwiches, hearty entrees and decadent desserts. Don't limit yourself to just dinnertime, though – Matchbox also offers a weekend brunch (with a bacon bloody merry, for you hardcore bacon lovers out there), and a special "late night bites" menu from 11:30 p.m.-1 a.m. on weekends.
