When the sign in front of a restaurant misspells the region after which it’s named, you can usually take it as a good indication of what you’re in for. Daily Fish of Chesapeake (or “Chespeake,” as the sign reads) is a fast food carry-out and grocery shack along the border of Cardoza and Columbia Heights. Though the atmosphere leaves much to be desired, Daily Fish is a rare one-stop-shop for all your casual vices: a hefty platter of deep-fried goodies, a six pack of Bud, a pack of cigarettes and a fist-full of lottery tickets. You’ll have a tough time finding another place in the District where you can get an aptly-named “seafood box” of fish, shrimp, crab sticks, scallops, fries and slaw for under $6. To add to its appeal, the restaurant is run by an adorably high-energy Asian couple with limited English proficiency, which only adds to your Daily Fish experience.
