Mt. Pleasant is a little village in the city, and Heller's Bakery is the place villagers return to again and again for its loveable lack of sophistication in a world of hip lounges and venti lattes. Only recently did Heller's organize its queuing and ordering process, which got quite confusing and hectic on weekend mornings. A neighborhood staple in a landmark building since 1922, Heller's has history and local owners on its side. While breakfast is most popular, the bakery also serves a full lunch/dinner menu from the grill, as well as excellent salads and empanadas. Whatever you may say about the coffee, you can't beat Heller's eclectic, friendly community atmosphere.
