This is my favorite restaurant in the Kantlands. I feel like I have stepped into a little french cafe. I love the atmosphere and like the fact that it is quiet enough to hear the conversations at your table. All the food I have eaten in this establishment is fresh and delicious. The desserts are fabulous. This is a 5 star establishment in my book.

This is one of the best places in Washington. I always thought it was too expensive but BOY was I wrong. There prices are very competitive/reasonable. The atmosphere is unbelievable. Where else can you sit by a roaring real fire! Food was great and wine list broad. Service was perfect.

Live2EatInDC wrote about La Sandia Mexican Kitchen and Bar

My family ate at La Sandia at around 7:30 on a Friday night. We chose it because it was the only restaurant in the mall without a waiting list (i.e., Coastal Flats had a one-hour wait). Not only were we seated immediately, but there were many empty tables. This should have been a clear indication of what to expect. The atmosphere was severely lacking (we could very well have been sitting in a fastfood restaurant), but what was most disappointing was the food, which was bland and uninspiring. The guacamole appetizer was the only tasty dish (although not worthy of $9.50 for such a small amount). One dish ordered was the Baha Tacos for $14. The beer-battered tilapia tasted as if it had been frozen and not prepared to order, and it was topped with stringy slaw (which made the taco messy and difficult to eat) and flavorless sauce. The accompanying rice and beans were equally bland. We were forced to incorporate flavor to our dishes by adding salsa. As for service, it was slow (strange considering how few customers were present). The food was definitely not worthy of the prices. Will never again frequent this restaurant.

We (family of 6) had a very pleasant dinner on a Saturday night at Marrakash. Having spent many weeks in Morocco, I can say it was a good reminder of Marrakech and the fine resturants in that city. However, one would think that Moroccans would know how to prepare fish a bit better. It was grilled well, but obviously not marinated in anything before the grilling. Execept for that one criticism I can say that the service was very good, the other dishes; bastilla, Harirra , couscous, the Mezza were very good and well prepared. Portions just right for the $30+ /per person cost and we were comfortable in asking to make the dinner come at a slower pace than normal. The height of the evening was the superb belly dancing; a talent that when good can be overwhelming in style and stamina, beautiful to watch as a dance well executed. This dancer was exceptionally good and very sincere. We had a chance to chat briefly after and she was tuned to our appreciation. Of course it helps to be from the Middle East too. Then we can see it through cultural eyes. Overall I would highly recommend this resturant ...especially on a night when there is dancing.

I have to correct chalos on one point.. The owners of Quetzal Grill ARE from Guatemala...I know them from way before we even came to this country...They are authentic Jutiapanecos like myself...I am sure this is some northern Guatemalan or even worse un capitalino that thinks their way is the only way and anyone who lives any further south is from El Salvador, not true! If you are so unhappy with them there are other Guatemalan restaurants in the area also owned by authentic Jutiapanecos as well, true Guatemalans! The 3 guatemalan restaurants in Manassas are al owned by genuine Guatemalan, Jutiapanecos!! That is why the flavors are not those that a capitalino might expect...que viva Asuncion Mita!

This is almost impossible to believe. I don't want to brag on the Gourmet standards levels of Guatemalan food, but if you really know Guatemalan food, this one is like the one from the K-Z (casetas) or even worst. The owners of this restaurant are not Guatemalans they are Salvadoreans. The music is like from a cheap bar full of drunk people(borrachos). The only Guatemalan cook is not obeyed by the helpers... The flavors, the quality of food are vey low. We have 20 years living in America. However, we go back home at least twice a year, plus we still cook guatemalan food at home. The atol de elote (corn hot drink) is horrible!!! The flavor is like burned husk and old cobs boiled over and over, seems like they just added some maizena (corn flour) and a ton of sugar... Don't waist your time and money. The area is quite of risky for a second generation American. Poor my paisanos (farmers from the fields) that don't have any other choice, since they left their family back home and they are craving for a little piece of flavor/memory from Guate. I wish they can give me a chance of adding zero stars to this restaurant. Chapines, (Guatemalans) Let's put a real restaurant from our kitchen at this area!!!

Small, unassuming sushi bar and restaurant with superb fare and quick, friendly service. Weekday lunch buffet is a great deal, but a-la-carte offerings at lunch and during normally uncrowded dinner hours are delicious as well. This great find has become one of my "regulars", and I am happy to keep returning.

Holy cow. I guess I should be saying holy fish! Had an amazing meal that included some nigiri from the sushi bar. And when I say sushi, it's real sushi with a Japanese head chef. Miso seabass is to die for. Sweet & tender. My wife had the grouper and I had the Halibut. Both cooked pefectly, and very fresh. Not over done with the sauces. Portions are fair for the price and given the freshness and preparation. Our service was SOMEWHAT spotty, but they've only been open for a week so I would expect them to work it out. The atmosphere is what is really gonna make this place. Very chic and cool little spots throughout. The patio isn't done yet, but looks like a ton of space and was told a firepit and water fountains will be up soon. Definitely an exciting new add to Northern Va.

Huge screens everywhere, multiple games, no obstructed views. Two cozy floors, big enough for a crowd but small enough to make for a super-friendly atmosphere. Outdoor patio (with gas heaters) and 3 new outside screens! Sidewalk cafe in warm weather. Good food, good prices, good location - 3 blocks from the Verizon Center, across the street from the National Archives metro stop.

I am losing weight and often visit Darrah’s so that Mama Susie can make my special. I often ask for Deja by name and tip well. I have been served by at least 6 females over the past few years. Contrary to what I just read I have been well served by all the females including little Susie. I cannot imagine what turned you against Deja because she is often willing the assist me with my most complex orders. I am very particular about my food and tip well. Maybe if the previous reviewer would tip better and dine there more often they would see that Mike is a walking ash tray. He has served me too...that is when he does not have to run out for a quick smoke. I am sure that he hung up on me while I was making my last carry-out order over the phone. All the ladies waiters, Bree, Marie, Susan, Deja and Elise are all great. I cannot fathom why anyone would ask for Mike over the service of by those nice ladies. I have to go now. I am sure great meal and a better server other than Mike awaits me at Darrah’s Café.

Ninam wrote about Bazin's on Church

This restaurant has by far the worst customer service I have ever encountered. When passing by this weekend we stopped in to see if there was any availability. The host (who we later found out is the manager) told us he had one table, but asked if we could finish eating in an hour. When he noticed we were taken aback by the question, he responded by saying he was "doing us a favor" by seating us at all. Ordinarily I would have just left at that point, but instead we said we'd try our best. We skipped appetizers to save time for dessert instead. Service was a bit slow (about 20 minutes before we got bread), but we managed to finish our meals in about 45 minutes. At that point we were not sure if we still wanted dessert but figured we’d take a look at the dessert menu. But instead of the waiter returning with the menu, the manager/host came back and handed us our bill. When the waiter returned he said the manager told him not to bring us the menus and asked us to leave instead. We were completely appalled and definitely not expecting to get kicked out! Especially since there were 3 empty tables around us. The only silver lining was our waiter, who seemed shocked and embarrassed, and was very apologetic. I will never return to this restaurant or ever forget getting kicked out just for trying to be a patron. I hope that waiter can find a better job for classier management.

What a surprise, we sat down we were given so many complimentary items I was blown away. Zucchini chips with this fabulous spice coding, Prosciutto, bruschetta 2 baskets of a variety of breaks, the crunchy garlic bread stick was my favorite. The server came around with a giant hunk of cheese and a scoop and proceeded to scoop a nice large slice of cheese for us, absolutely fantastic. Caesar salad great. At the end we were surprised at the end when the servers brought a large cooper kettle with grappa made with white raisins.

harbl wrote about Gah-Rham Restaurant

I visit the Gah Rham about twice a month. It's one of my favorite places to go when I want to "treat" myself to lunch. The buffet is more pricey than their competition, but I feel it's worth it. First of all, the quality of their sushi is quite good. Unlike some other places around here they never let it sit too long, probably because customers like me scoop it up so fast it never has the chance to dry out. Also, they have quite a good selection including raw & cooked varieties, a number of vegetarian selections and even some items garnished with interesting sauces and/or fried tempura-style. I can't comment much about the food in the hot line, as it has been a while since I've had it. However, I have friends who like it well enough. I do recall liking their barbecued beef and they always have miso soup available. Everything is kept fresh and well stocked, so it must be pretty good. Overall the ambiance is pretty nice. The decor in the main restaurant is pleasant, but it's a little more spartan in the overflow seating area. There is usually Korean music playing in the background, sometimes a bit louder than optimal but usually it's pretty quiet. The overall noise level is very low, which I find pleasant. My favorite thing about the Gah Rham is the service. Everyone there is so very friendly. The waitresses always smile and refill your water glass often. The cashier who rings you up (usually the owner, I believe) always greets you with a warm smile and sends you off good wishes. And maybe it's just me, but the sushi chef always recognizes me and asks how I am. I always leave Gah Rham with a smile. Overall I really enjoy visiting the Gah Rham and definitely recommend it.

Janeira wrote about Colonel Brooks' Tavern Bar

Myself and two friends decided to make a night of it in Colonel Brooks, and after the meal we started on tequila. After four each, my friends and myself each independently came to the conclusion that we weren't getting drunk. None of us are heavy drinkers and we should have felt something. We left Colonel Brooks over $130 lighter and sober. We complained to the management but they just denied it. The service was totally crap, too. I won't be returning.
